MACAM Hotel
Wake up with Art
This project, this house, was born from an old dream. A museum that houses the collection assembled over the last 50 years by Armando Martins, and a hotel to welcome all those who want to discover Lisbon or return to share this space.
In his youth, Portuguese collector Armando Martins, born in Penamacor, Beira Baixa, fell in love with art, and little by little, first with works of Portuguese modernism and later combining Portuguese and international contemporary art, he began to build this collection, which currently comprises more than 600 works of art. In the 1990s, the idea began to emerge of a place where all the pieces could be brought together and, perhaps, made known to everyone. The desire and ambition is to
continue to grow this collection and support young artists.
This vision, this dream, merges into a unique project, combining the MACAM - Armando Martins Museum of Contemporary Art and the MACAM Hotel in the same space. With the intention of sharing a love of art and inviting everyone to question the importance of art in our lives, the collection is present in various environments, in the museum galleries, in each hotel room with original works, and in the common areas of the museum and hotel.
Under the motto “The House of Private Collections,” the collector also intends to invite other collectors to unveil collections that have been stored away or are not easily accessible to the public, and to exhibit them here in this space.
